Needle Through Balloon

Pierce a Balloon Without It Popping. Here is an amazing science experiment that will amaze your friends. Usually, when you prick a balloon, it goes POP! But David from Science Boffins is going to show us this is not always true

Step 1:

You will need the following materials:

• A balloon

cellophane tape

A skewer or a needle

Step 2: Aim

The aim of this experiment is to pierce
the skin of a balloon without it popping.

Step 3: Method

Stretch the balloon with to make it easier to blow into.
Blow steadily into the balloon.
Don't blow it up to its full size, and the experiment will be easier to perform.
Tie the balloon by wrapping it around a finger first, then tuck the end through the hole. Pierce the balloon on the top at the spot where the colour is darkest. This is where it's less stretched.
Put a bit of petroleum jelly on the head of the balloon before the needle is pushed through. This reduces friction when the needle pierces the balloon's surface.
Push the skewer through the top of the balloon first, then out of the neck.

Step 4: Conclusion

Why did this happen?
Balloons are made up of lots of chains, called polymer chains that are so small they are invisible to the naked eye. On the sides of the balloon, these polymer chains are stretched to their limit. At the neck of the balloon the polymers are much less stretched, so when pierced with a knitting needle, there is enough room to allow the needle in between the chains without breaking them.

Experiment Complete!

The tape sticks to the rubber in the balloon and will not allow the rubber to stretch to the breaking point when the pin pierces the balloon. In other words, the tape reinforces the cross links, and the balloon stays together.

Street vendor selling chilled water and finger foods

Are you a food lover?
Do you buy food being display along the streets?
If yes, then, we are on the same page.
If not, then, just take a look at the content of this story and am sure you will be more inspired.

Many people are confused on how to distinguish street food, or dine-in food because in some countries street food stands, carts, and vendors are rarely seen, or doesn't even exist.

Asia is the continent with the most street food cultures and people usually have no trouble of understanding the means of street food.

Aling Nena, as shown in the picture above is a sidewalk vendor selling water, candies and finger food like pop corn for more than ten years in Quiapo.
She has five children all go to school and her husband is an ordinary carpenter whose income is unstable.
According to her, she starts displaying at 5:00 in the morning and goes home at 7:00 in the evening every day.
Her husband extends help to her if he doesn’t have work so she can take a rest.
Every weekend her children take her place so she finds other job like home service to earn extra income.
Sometimes, she feels like giving up but since she has a family who depends on her, she goes on with her every day battle.
She shares that there are times where she stays under the heat of the sun and worst, even gets wet by the rain just to earn money; yet she stands still for a very good reason...her family.
Regardless of her stature in life, she says that she is still very lucky as a person considering all the blessings that she has in life.
She is grateful for having family members like she has now who are very cooperative and helpful and who also view life positively the way she does.
She further states that life for her is a challenge that everyone needs to take into consideration; the more the downs the better person one can become.
“It is a matter of how we live our lives, not how much or many possessions we have,” says Aling Nena.

PyeongChang Winter Olympics to be a massive boost for Korean economy

Banners celebrating PyeongChang’s selection as the host of the Winter Games in 2018 are hung across a road near the Alpensia Resort in PyeongChang on Thursday.

PyeongChang’s hosting the Winter Olympics in 2018 will bring massive economic benefits for the country.

According to estimates based on a report compiled in 2008 by the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade, hosting the games will have the effect of 230,000 jobs and have production inducement effect of more than 20 trillion won .
In addition, the report estimated that the event will bring about 8.75 trillion won in added value to the country.

With PyeongChang located in the heart of Gangwon Province, the eastern province is projected to reap most benefits from the event.
According to the projections made in 2008, Gangwon Province will receive production inducement effect of about 11.6 trillion won and nearly 5.4 trillion won in added value created by the Winter Games.
Of the 230,000 jobs created as a result of the event, about 141,000 or 61.3 percent will be created within Gangwon Province.
The provincial government is also projecting that 195,000 foreigners will visit the region during the games, which is scheduled to run from Feb. 9-25 2018, and purchase 490,000 tickets to various events.
During their stay, foreign visitors are estimated to spend on average 306,000 won per day, which equates to 477.8 billion won in total.
While the 2018 Winter Games is projected to have significant direct economic benefits for the country, other reports have projected that it will bring much larger indirect benefits to the country.
According to a study compiled by the Hyundai Research Institute, the economic boost the games will give Korea will amount to 64.9 trillion won most of which will come after the event.

The report estimated that in the 10 years following the event, Korea will receive indirect benefits whose value equates to about 43.8 trillion won, which is more than double the direct benefits the Hyundai Research Institute projects the event will bring to the country.

As for operations of the games, the PyeongChang 2018 Bid Committee hopes to raise some $300 million from various sponsors.

The committee projects that automakers, telecom service providers and airlines will be among the top-tier sponsors whose sponsorship will result in about $200 million in profits, with $100 million being raised from lower-tier sponsors.

As for ticket sales, the committee hopes to sell over 2.08 million tickets for the Olympic Games and about 300,000 tickets for the Paralympic Games that follow the main event.
